1. WORKS REQUIREMENTS
Theme: Feature films, short films and music video clips must belong to the Fantasy or Horror genres, including all its sub-genres and variants (thrillers, documentaries, black humor, science fiction, etc.).
2. CONTEST CATEGORIES
General considerations:
· For the aforementioned categories, there will be a single application form on the WWW.FILMFREEWAY.COM platform.
· If your work is selected, the documentation described in point 4 will be necessary.
Important, "please read": If the project is NOT in Spanish language, it must have subtitles in Spanish.
· The application to the festival authorizes it to use fragments of the material for promotional and advertising uses as deemed necessary.
· The application to the festival authorizes it to use the winners of the contest in itinerant exhibitions in Chilean cities that will be held during the period between festivals.
· The selected works may not exceed the following deadlines according to category:
1.- Feature films: Production after December 1, 2022.
2.- Short films: Production after December 1, 2022.
3.- VideoClips: Production after January 1, 2021
4.- Animation Short Films: after December 1, 2022.
5.- University Short Films: Production after January 1, 2022
A.-FEATURE FILM:
The competition is aimed at the exhibition of films which belong to the genres whether fantastic, documentary or experimental, Chilean or foreign. All according to the formats established in the technical sheet. All the film that participate in this category cannot have been exhibited previously in Chile either broadcast medium or any kind of platform (it is not excluding in the request if the case warrants it).
The category is subdivided for registration, programming and awards purposes for:
· International Feature Film Competition
· National Feature Film Competition (Chile)
For all works that have musical material registered in the Chilean Copyright Society (SCD), a letter of authorization from the musicians will be required where they assign the reproduction of the material delivered to SHFF within the works (which will be used for exhibitions in the context of the festival), indicating that it is non-profit in it in addition to the use of photographic materials, or others registered under licenses. (Item only applies to Chilean material)
B.-SHORT FILM:
The films should not to exceed 20 minutes as maximum duration. (Projects that exceed this time will also be evaluated. In case the quality justifies exceeding this limit).
The Short films are allowed to use any kind of audio-visual technique. For example, animation, video camera, stop motion, Cell phone camera etc…
The films will have to be submitted in a standard format compatible with most of the existing video players in the market or sent in high quality digital format.
The category is subdivided for the purposes of registration, programming and awards into:
· International Short Film Competition
· National Short Film Competition (Chile)

C.- MUSIC VIDEO:
The competition is aimed at filmmakers, bands, video clip producers, independent artists and record companies.
The duration of the video clip may not exceed 8 minutes (Non-exclusive)
It is not allowed to use materials / content which intellectual property rights are not submitted by exclusive owners or someone who has the legal authority to represent the owner of the rights.
Theme: horror, suspense, fantasy, myths and legends, science fiction.
The organization does not assume legal accusations that derive from unauthorized submission of copyrighted materials.
In the case of bands (application only in Chile), an authorization letter is required in which the reproduction of the material delivered to SHFF is allowed (which will be used for free exhibitions in the context of SHFF), indicating that there are no committed fines in addition to the use of photographic materials, or others registered under licenses.
This category will be subdivided for registration, programming and awards purposes in:
- International Video Clip Competition
- National Videoclip Competition (Chile)
Note: The director of the Videoclip will award the prize and if the Director is not present on the day of the award, the prize will be given to a representative of the Band.
Pre-selected video clips can be viewed at:
• The YouTube channel of the festival.
• SHFF in all its communications of the pre-selected video clips, finalists and winners will always use the link to the YouTube channel or Vimeo of the artist himself, he will never make personal use of the video clips.
D.- ANIMATION SHORT FILMS
The maximum length of the submitted works should not exceed 20 minutes. (not exclusive)
The works may use any type of audiovisual animation technique, ranging from animation, cell phone, video camera, stop motion, etc.
The works must be delivered in a standard format compatible with most of the existing players in the market or sent in high quality digital format (according to the rules).
- There will only be one category for this segment (short films).
- Entries may be submitted using any animation method. Works requiring stereoscopic viewing will not be accepted.
